You voted like your lives depended on it (and they did, didn't they?), and David Cook won Season 7 American Idol 2008. The finale was a glorious culmination of months of hard work by David, and months of devotion by his fans. Many of you contributed your time and money to the fund I started to help Adam Cook be present in the audience for the finale to watch David perform and win American Idol (
www.helpbringadamback.com). The fund raised $24,000, and was a resounding success. It was a race against time, but I was determined not to give up. Although they weren't on camera, Adam, Kendra and their two children were in the audience for the finale week and they saw David win American Idol.
Because of your generosity, Adam was able to use this money for his medical bills. Adam's medical bills are far more substantial than what has been collected so far, and they continue to mount. I've asked for and received permission from Julie Henricks, from
www.b1027fm.com in Terre Haute, Indiana, to sell the Adam Cook Grey Matters bracelets using Paypal for people who'd like to buy a bracelet which shows their support for Adam, and would like to pay online. Because the radio station can't accept credit cards or online orders directly, I am currently taking orders using my own Paypal account, and sending a check to the radio station. When I receive the bracelets, I will send your bracelet(s) to you.
If you are in the U.S., the cost is now $9.00 for each bracelet if you want your bracelet insured. If you are in the U.S. and you don't want your bracelet insured, the cost is $6.50, but I can't be responsible for any lost bracelets.
If you are outside the U.S., the cost is also $9.00, which covers postage anywhere in the world, but I can't insure any international orders. To order an Adam Cook Grey Matters bracelet, please (1) go to
http://www.paypal.com/, (2) click the "Send Money" tab, (3) use the email address
cwood@nyc.rr.com, (4) type "Adam Cook Bracelet".
Make sure to enter your correct shipping address. This is very important. I've received several orders without addresses, and slows the process down further for everyone.
For those who are going to the Do the Wright Thing Gala on November 12th: I am going to this event and I live in NYC.
Please put a notation in your Paypal transaction that you will be attending. This is very important!! I will be sending a check to the radio station to cover all the orders that have been placed since September 8th on October 15th.
If you want your bracelet(s) on or before November 12th, you must order yours before October 15th.
There will be no exceptions. I can take only Paypal orders for this event (no checks or money orders). In case there isn't enough time for mail delivery from the time I receive the bracelets, I will be bringing them to the Hard Rock and giving them to people attending before the show. Please send just $6.50 to Paypal as shown above if you are attending this event. I will not be insuring these bracelets.
If you are not going to the David Wright event, please follow the instructions in the above paragraph.
Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery. I'll do my best to make it as short a wait as possible, but as the number of bracelets ordered starts to decline, fewer orders will be placed. The radio station would prefer I have $150 worth of orders with each check I send and that could take some time. I usually cover the advance cost of 5-10 bracelets myself when it gets close to $150. There are three mailing cycles involved before yours will arrive. I order them from the radio station and they often run out, and must wait a few weeks for their next shipment before sending more. Since I am paying the cost of the bracelet plus the entire contribution that goes to Adam with each bracelet in each order, I am unable to order many extra bracelets I don't have already advance orders for. I send out orders for as many bracelets as I can as soon as I receive them, so please rest assured, if your bracelet hasn't come in the mail yet and you ordered it 2-3 weeks ago, it will come. I am not underestimating the time when I say it can take anywhere from one to two months, depending on the number of orders and how quickly the radio station sends me bracelets. I appreciate everyone's patience, and I wish I could make the process move faster, but it's impossible.
Unfortunately, if you are outside the U.S., I cannot insure your package with the U.S. Postal Service. You place your order at your own risk. If it is lost in the mail I cannot be responsible. I am sorry.
If you would like to buy a "David Cook Rocks" bracelet (the purple one David is wearing in the photos above), where half the proceeds go to The American Brain Tumor Association and the other half go to Adam Cook, please go to
http://www.davidcookbracelets.googlepages.com/. For some reason, even though this link is correct, it doesn't work from here, so you will need to type it yourself.
If you would like to buy a GritFX T-shirt, $1 from the sale of each T-shirt will be donated to Adam Cook. You can see all the designs at
http://www.cafepress.com/gritfx/5618097. They are selling the shirts and take credit cards. I penned the slogan "Cook Gave Music Back to the People" and $2 for the sale of each shirt or item will go to Adam. You can see the different shirts and products with this slogan at
http://www.cafepress.com/gritfx/5561672.
Here's what that design looks like. You can have any item personalized if you'd like. Details are on the website.
I came up with this slogan for a couple of reasons. One, I think David Cook will be responsible for helping keep rock music alive for all the generations in the future. He represents a great hope to many of us who grew up with classic rock music. Two, when Analog Heart went to #1 on Amazon.com with no label, no promotion and no video, it reminded me of how music was discovered before the days of MTV and corporate control (way back!). You'd go visit a friend who would turn you on to music you'd likely never hear on the radio, and you'd buy it because it struck a good vibration inside you, and not because it was being marketed to you as an image-first commodity, or because you were part of a particular demographic some corporate suits decided on. Because Analog Heart stayed on the charts and went to #1, whether he meant to or not, David Cook gave music back to the people, for 3 1/2 weeks in late March and April, 2008, and because Analog Heart is just that good!
If you would like to contribute to Adam Cook directly, go to
www.paypal.com and use the email address
helpbringadamback@gmail.com. This email address is linked to the Paypal account which was used to collect money for Adam to get to the finale, and all funds go to Old National Bank, Adam's bank in Terre Haute, IN. Vickie Wallace, the bank officer, oversees this account and transfers all funds to Adam's bank account. You can email Vickie at
vickie.wallace@oldnational.com or call 812-462-7413 for confirmation.
If you would like to contribute to the American Cancer Society using a credit card in Adam's name or any other person you wish, go to
http://main.acsevents.org/goto/wordnerd.
I welcome any and all ideas on how we may continue our support for Adam Cook and I'm open to posting any links or photos for anything that will benefit Adam here. Please email me with any questions or suggestions at
cwood@nyc.rr.com.
Thank you for your continued support. David Cook's fans are the kindest and most generous people on the planet! Having met and talked to Adam and Kendra Cook in May, I can honestly say they are the certainly some of the sweetest and probably the strongest people I've ever met. I'm sure they would hug each and every one of you if they could.
Sincerely,
Cathy Wood
